Due to the unique nature of the counselling setting and current social stigmas around mental health some people find their first session quite daunting, so it might be helpful to know what to expect before you arrive.
The sessions are lead by you and you do most of the talking. There are likely to be times when you have nothing to say and some people feel awkward during such silences thinking they should be saying something; there is no need to feel that you have to have something to say for the full session, if you want to just sit and think then do.
At the end of the first session we discuss how we might work together and if we feel counselling would help you. Things like location, costs, how many sessions days and times.
